Acted as the lead strategist, defining the product vision and roadmap while directing the design execution of a selected Junior Designer
Conducted a comprehensive evaluation of the legacy platform, identifying critical failures in accessibility, heuristics, and affordances
Mentored and supervised the end-to-end design process, ensuring the final output met institutional-grade usability standards
Project
overview
Background
Boreal Audios is a Civic Tech platform designed to shift political debate from polarized text-based echo chambers to high-intent audio spaces. The goal is to enable constructive, human-centric alternative ways to discuss complex social and political topics.
The Challenge
Their existing design suffered from deep-rooted UX debt. It wasn't just visually dated; it was functionally broken. My challenge was to lead a total transformation—moving from a flawed legacy product to a high-performance audio ecosystem.
The Strategy: Audit, Mentor, Execute
The Diagnostic Audit
I moved beyond hands-on execution to act as Product Strategist and Design Lead, diagnosing the platform’s failures.
For this I led a deep-dive audit of the existing interface, uncovering significant friction points. This audit served as the objective foundation for the entire redesign. I facilitated discovery workshops to bridge the gap between business goals and the new user requirements revealed in my audit.
Identified friction
Non-compliant accessibility
Inconsistent affordances
Broken heuristics
Outdated design
Workshops transform the 'what' of cooperation into the collective 'why' of a shared mission.
Mentorship-Driven Execution
I oversaw the talent selection for the project, mentoring a Junior Designer through the execution phase. I acted as the primary filter for quality, ensuring every design decision was rooted in the accessibility and usability standards identified during the audit.
Curated the project team and mentored a Junior Designer to scale execution
Established a strong discovery cycle to ensure WCAG and heuristic compliance
Directed the systemic elimination of bad patterns for a unified UI
Managed the 0→1 roadmap ensuring the North Star within a 3-month timeline
The Result: A High-Performance Pivot
We didn't just redesign the app; we re-engineered the experience. By stripping away "bad patterns" and implementing a research-backed functional logic, we delivered a 0→1 product that is accessible, intuitive, and strategically positioned for scale.
